We have had some major flooding here at Blue Grass today. The creek that runs through the camp crested higher than anyone can remember. The camps maintenance building was destroyed by the flood. We did have the tractor and zero turn mower out of the garage. We lost a lot of hand tools, weed eaters, chainsaws, etc. We also had 4 -5 feet of water in the basement of our main building, thus getting into all of the furnaces.

I wanted to update you with a little more information as to where we are on Tuesday in the flood clean up and recovery process.
Several wonderful volunteers have been here yesterday and today and the clean up is progressing well. There is still much more work to be done and all help is appreciated. The service work has begun on our kitchen appliances and we should have our kitchen completely operational by next week, and we will be able to host a couple of our retreat groups this weekend.
After speaking with the insurance company late yesterday, we determined that Camp’s Insurance will cover $10,000 of the damages under our flood protection. The remainder of the damages will not be covered by insurance because the damage was caused by flooding. We have estimated the cost to repair or replace damaged equipment to be about $45,000 plus the cost to construct a new maintenance building in the near future, which we do not have an estimate on at this time. A fair estimate at this time may be total damages around $80,000, leaving the camp with about $70,000 to raise from churches, groups and individuals.

Kelly, I appreciated the tour of your facilities during the conference. Having seen God do some great things through His people here in Michigan, I trust He will do the same for you folks with your flood repair. Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to help put together a great conference.
